AN EASY-DRINKING RED, ‘NUFF SAID.

If you haven’t experienced the love affair between Italian winemakers and Italy’s 2nd most widely planted grape, Montepulciano, get ready to make some room on your wine rack. Montepulciano is as Italian as it sounds and you can always expect a deep, dark color followed by juicy black fruit aromas like blackberry, black cherry, and plum.

This wine is so smooth, it’ll fit right into your heavy rotation of excellent wine that doesn’t break the bank.

FROM JUST EAST OF THE SPINE OF ITALY.

East of the Appennine Mountains, famously called the “spine of Italy,” is Abruzzo, the birthplace of Montepulciano. The mountains protect the vineyards from rain and thunderstorms, letting in only sunshine under which winemakers have been practicing their craft for centuries.

Meanwhile, air from the Adriatic sea cools the vineyards at night, allowing the grapes to retain a fresh acidity while they develop those jammy fruit flavors. It’s the perfect storm, or, lack thereof.

PAIR IT WITH YOUR FAVORITE GO-TOS.

Montepulciano is one of the greats, so it should be paired with your favorite easy-to-make dishes. Try it with spaghetti and meatballs, 3-bean chili, bacon cheeseburgers, or pizza night.
